We will study permanent magnets, (like the bar magnet and the Earth above), magnetic fields, and electromagnetism. We will learn that magnetism and electricity are connected. You cannot have an electric current without producing a magnetic field. For example, when current flows through the coil to the left, a magnetic field (identical to the magnetic field of the bar magnet) is created.
